After the initial formulaion, this lube was laboratory tested. With the engineers satisfied with the formula, a limited amount was released for testing and research purposes in the field. Field-testing took place over a period of several months. It soon became clear that this lubricant was unlike anything that had been used - it stayed on longer, kept the chain cleaner and the drive train quiet for extended periods. Chains also lasted longer.
An extended extreme condition test was also undertaken. The semi-desert karoo was selected for a 1200km eight day test tour. This area is extremely hot and dusty during this time. The complete route was on gravel roads and jeep tracks. Stages varied between 140km and 180km. Squirt was applied once a day before each stage started. No cleaning had been done between stages and lube just added every day. No build up occurred and the chain stayed clean throughout the event (see pictures of cluster and chain). The multiple wax layer rejected water during stream crossings with no effect on the function of the lube.
After 1200km and eight days of riding off road, dirt and jeep tracks, this is what the cluster looked like without any cleaning. One application of Squirt was made every day.
